Recently Twitter was down due to the DDoS attack. This DDoS attack is not so familiar in the webmaster community including small and medium webmasters. We never know them because we never experience until we grow big. If you wonder what exactly is the Denial of Service attack, here are the related informational clips to explain you in a clear manner.
Denial of Service is caused when number of users start accessing the site simultaneously. Every site is operated on a web hosting server which has its limits. If the limit of maximum load taken by the server exceeds, the server(s) fail resulting in the denial of service rendering the pages of the site not accessible for any users. Mainly the gambling sites and high traffic sites which have huge revenues are more prone for such attacks. Hackers contact the webmasters of sites whose fine running of website is much essential for business and most of the webmasters tend to respond paying them to avoid the DDos attacks. Cyber criminals create a huge number of bots which simultaneously ping a website to a very huge extent which renders the server go down for a while. Other possible reason for Denial of Service is when more number of users naturally access a specific website. Like Michael Jackson death also made Google to lie down for some time.
Note: Trying DDoS attack on any website is illegal and your ISP may take severe actions for trying it at home.
