How to Identify and Translate Foreign Languages into Your Language / English
Written by Pavan Kumar on January 16, 2009
I know you are all smart enough to use online language translator tools to convert some foreign (anything – not geo specific) language to your familiar one. You can translate from any language to English or your regional language if the source language is known. If it is a small text portion, you may also use the firefox translation extension. What if the source language is unknown and you don’t even know to which region it belongs to? Here is the solution.
Everyone is aware of Google Translate tool. It supports most of the popular foreign languages. Now, coming to the fact which most of us are not aware about this tool. If you load the tool, by default it will be set to translate from Spanish to English. You can change the languages based on your choice. If you don’t know the language of the text which needs to be translated, simply copy and paste the text and scroll the language chooser to the top end. You will find an option "Detect Language" in which case you don’t need to enter the language and the source language is automatically identified and gets translated by itself.
In case Google Translator does not support that language, in few cases it at least identifies the language and you can know the source language, but you cannot make out the meaning.
